Rays 4, Astros 3: Pinch hitter Jerry Sands singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and David Price won for the first time in six starts as visiting Tampa Bay took two of three in the series.

Yunel Escobar was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and Ben Zobrist added three hits for the Rays, who won their first series since sweeping Boston May 23-25. Price (5-6) allowed three runs on five hits and struck out 10 over eight innings before Jake McGee worked around a one-out single for his first save in the ninth.

Dexter Fowler recorded a solo homer and a double and Matt Dominguez also had a solo blast and a single for the Astros, who saw their seven-series unbeaten streak come to an end. Reliever Jerome Williams (1-3) yielded two runs and five hits over two innings to take the loss.

Fowler led off the first inning by belting a 1-2 curveball over the left-field wall and Dominguez hit a 3-2 pitch from Price out to left later in the frame for a 2-0 lead. Escobar’s bases-loaded walk in the second and RBI double in the fourth sandwiched a run-scoring single by Jesus Guzman in the third.

The Rays tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth on a fielder’s choice by Desmond Jennings, who was called safe after a manager’s challenge by Joe Maddon. Matt Joyce singled to open the eighth and Escobar was hit by a pitch before Sands served a broken-bat RBI single to left field for a 4-3 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Price registered his 20th career double-digit strikeout game to break James Shields’ club record. … Houston 2B Jose Altuve was held out of the starting lineup for the third straight game with a bruised right hand, but grounded into a fielder’s choice in the ninth as a pinch hitter. … Astros starter RHP Brad Peacock lasted only four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks.
