Rockies 6, Marlins 5: Jordan Pacheco went 3-for-4 and visiting Colorado held on after nearly blowing a five-run lead for its first victory.

Charlie Blackmon and Michael Cuddyer added two hits apiece for the Rockies, who recorded 12 hits and scored three runs apiece in the first and fourth innings. Jordan Lyles (1-0) allowed four runs on five hits with five strikeouts over five innings and 41-year-old LaTroy Hawkins gave up a run on two hits in the ninth before recording his first save.

Miami starter Henderson Alvarez (0-1) did not record an out in the fourth, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits in three-plus innings. Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer in the sixth and drove home a run in the ninth for the Marlins, who committed three errors.

Colorado broke through in the top of the first with five consecutive hits off Alvarez, scoring runs on Carlos Gonzalez’s double, Justin Morneau’s single and Pacheco’s single to take a 3-0 lead. Miami drew within 3-1 in the bottom of the inning on Garrett Jones’ run-scoring single, but imploded in the top of the fourth thanks to two errors, a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk.

After errors by Adeiny Hechavarria and Derek Dietrich loaded the bases, Nolan Arenado scored on Alvarez’s wild pitch to make it 4-1. Reliever Kevin Slowey walked Blackmon with the bases loaded to force home another run and Cuddyer’s sacrifice fly pushed the advantage to 6-1.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pacheco was called safe at second in the fourth when it was ruled Hechavarria did not touch the base while fielding Dietrich’s wide throw – a ruling Miami manager Mike Redmond challenged unsuccessfully. … Slowey pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out five. … Gonzalez left the game in the sixth with dizziness.
