Padres 8, Cubs 3: Tommy Medica went 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Yangervis Solarte added two hits and scored twice in his San Diego debut as the visiting Padres evened the series at one win apiece.

Medica and Solarte led a rare outburst for the majors' least-productive offensive team, as the Padres scored at least eight runs for only the sixth time all season. Ian Kennedy (8-9) worked around five walks, limiting the Cubs to three runs on three hits and five walks over six innings while striking out six.

Luis Valbuena accounted for all of the Cubs' offense with a three-run homer. Tsuyoshi Wada (0-1) allowed five runs and five hits in four innings while issuing four of Chicago's season-high 11 walks.

Wada's second major-league start got off to a rocky beginning, as he walked Chris Denorfia to lead off the game before surrendering an RBI triple by Solarte and a sacrifice fly by Carlos Quentin. Chris Nelson's run-scoring double in the fourth pushed the lead to 3-0, but Valbuena answered with his shot to right in the bottom of the inning to tie it.

Solarte and Quentin drew back-to-back walks to start the fifth before Medica chased Wada with an RBI ground-rule double to left-center, snapping the tie. Reliever Brian Schlitter walked Rene Rivera with the bases loaded later in the inning to make it 5-3, and the Padres tacked on three in the eighth on RBI singles by Seth Smith and Medica and a sacrifice fly from Jeff Francoeur.

GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego CF Cameron Maybin was suspended 25 games for testing positive for amphetamines, the league announced Wednesday. The Padres brought up Francoeur from Triple-A El Paso to fill the roster spot. … Cubs All-Star 1B Anthony Rizzo went 1-for-2 with two walks, extending his hitting streak to eight games. … Chicago RHP Justin Grimm allowed three runs in the eighth inning and has surrendered two or more in four of his last eight outings to raise his ERA from 3.03 to 4.98.
