Braves 4, Phillies 2: Freddie Freeman homered and drove in four runs while Julio Teheran snapped a three-start winless streak as visiting Atlanta captured the opener of a four-game series.

Freeman launched a three-run homer in the first inning and added a RBI double in the second, finishing 3-for-5 as the Braves won for the third time in four games and moved into a first-place tie with Washington in the National League East. Teheran (7-5) improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.75 against Philadelphia this season, giving up two runs (one earned) with no walks and nine strikeouts in seven innings.

Ben Revere went 3-for-4 for the Phillies, who swept three games in Atlanta last week but have dropped five of their past seven. Kyle Kendrick (3-8) struck out a season-high eight and settled down after a rough first inning, allowing four runs on nine hits in eight innings.

Freeman followed B.J. Upton’s leadoff single and Andrelton Simmons’ walk in the first with a towering drive to center for his 13th homer. Freeman lined a double to right-center in the second to plate Simmons and extend Atlanta’s advantage to 4-0.

The Phillies reached Teheran for two runs in the fourth, with Jimmy Rollins following Revere’s triple with an RBI groundout and Marlon Byrd singling home Chase Utley after a Simmons’ error. Teheran retired 11 of the final 12 hitters he faced, Jordan Walden struck out Ryan Howard with two on to end the eighth and Craig Kimbrel pitched the ninth for his 23rd save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta C Evan Gattis left the game after the top of the first with a spasm in the rhomboid muscle in his upper back; the team said his status is day-to-day. … Revere, who came in 0-for-8 lifetime against Teheran, is 6-for-10 in his past two games. … Upton chased down John Mayberry Jr.’s drive to deep center with one on and one out in the ninth.
