Mets 6, Braves 4: Eric Young Jr. and Daniel Murphy combined for six hits, six runs scored and four stolen bases as visiting New York rallied to take the decisive game of a three-game series.

Young finished 3-for-5 with four runs scored and three stolen bases while Murphy went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, three RBIs and a steal. Carlos Torres (2-0) struck out three in two scoreless innings of relief and Jose Valverde earned his second save with a flawless ninth inning.

Justin Upton homered twice and finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Atlanta, which lost a series for the first time this season. Freddie Freeman added two hits, but the Braves’ bullpen could not keep the game tied.

Murphy played a role in tying the game and putting the Mets ahead, driving home Young on a two-out single to left in the fifth to even the score at 4-4. Murphy led off the seventh with a single to center off Atlanta reliever Luis Avilan (1-1), scored with two outs on Juan Lagares’ soft single to right off Gus Schlosser and doubled home Young in the eighth.

Upton hit a two-out homer to right to tie the game in the second, but New York surged ahead 3-1 on David Wright’s single and Ike Davis’ groundout in the third. The Braves answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs on Freeman’s RBI single and Upton’s second homer of the game, a two-run shot that traveled 477 feet deep into the left-field seats.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta starter David Hale struggled through 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with five walks while New York starter Jenrry Mejia gave up four runs on six hits in five frames. … The Mets stole five bases and finished the series with eight. … Atlanta SS Andrelton Simmons was scratched from the starting lineup due to a jammed right wrist.
