Dodgers 3, Cardinals 0: Rookie Hyun-Jin Ryu threw seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball to outduel Adam Wainwright and get host Los Angeles back in the National League Championship Series.

Ryu (1-0) limited St. Louis to three singles, Adrian Gonzalez and Yasiel Puig each had RBI extra-base hits and Hanley Ramirez added a run-scoring single as the Dodgers handed Wainwright his first career postseason loss. Brian Wilson worked a scoreless eighth before closer Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth to cut the lead to 2-1 in the best-of-seven series

Wainwright (0-1), who won two games in the NL Division Series versus Pittsburgh, gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings and didn't get much help from his defense when Los Angeles scored twice in the fourth inning. The Dodgers will look to even the series when they likely send Ricky Nolasco to the mound to oppose Lance Lynn in Tuesday night's Game 4.

Mark Ellis was credited with a leadoff double in the fourth when center fielder Jon Jay held up on his fly ball with right fielder Carlos Beltran nearby, moved to third on Ramirez's sacrifice fly and came home when Gonzalez doubled down the right-field line to halt the Dodgers' 22-inning scoreless streak. Puig electrified the crowd and plated Gonzalez with a two-out triple off the wall in right, ending his 0-for-11 skid in the series.

St. Louis threatened in its next at-bat on leadoff singles by David Freese and Matt Adams, but pinch runner Daniel Descalso was doubled off second base on Jay's lineout to left. The Dodgers failed to capitalize on A.J. Ellis' leadoff triple in the fifth, but got an insurance run in the eighth when Carl Crawford scored from second on Ramirez's looper just beyond the reach of Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Puig was dropped to No. 6 in the batting order - his lowest spot all season - for the Dodgers, whose 22-inning postseason scoreless drought was the second-longest in franchise history, behind a 33-inning skid against Baltimore in the 1966 World Series. ... Freese, the 2011 World Series MVP, was forced from the game in the fifth inning with tightness in his right calf. ... Ramirez, who sat out Game 2, had two hits in his return to the lineup despite a hairline fracture of his ribcage that forced him to wear a flak jacket.
