Rays 6, Rangers 2: Rookie Wil Myers belted a solo homer and a two-run double while Alex Cobb struck out 10 in eight innings to remain unbeaten at home as Tampa Bay handed Texas its seventh straight loss.

Evan Longoria recorded three hits and an RBI for the Rays, who scored four in the fifth inning and moved one game ahead of the Rangers for first in the American League wild-card race. Cobb (9-3) allowed two runs and six hits en route to improving his home record to 6-0.

Ian Kinsler collected two doubles and an RBI for the Rangers, who fell to 2-12 in September but remained one-half game ahead of Cleveland for the second wild-card position. Matt Garza (3-5) yielded six runs and eight hits over 4 1/3 innings in his first game against his former team since being traded after the 2010 season.

David DeJesus started the big rally in the fifth with a one-out double and scored on James Loney’s single for a 3-2 lead. Longoria followed with an RBI single and Myers drilled his two-run double off the center-field wall against reliever Jason Frasor.

Myers lined an opposite-field homer to right on the first pitch of the second inning for his 13th of the season, giving Tampa Bay the early lead. A.J. Pierzynski delivered a two-out RBI single in the fourth to knot the game, and Kinsler’s two-out RBI double in the fifth tied it at 2-2.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ben Zobrist had three hits and a walk for the Rays, who clinched their sixth consecutive winning season. … Texas CF Leonys Martin threw Yunel Escobar out at the plate in the third inning for his 14th outfield assist, the most in club history since Ruben Sierra’s 15 in 1991. … Rangers 1B Mitch Moreland snapped an 0-for-22 slump with a double in the fifth inning and scored on Kinsler’s two-base hit.
