Blue Jays 7, Padres 4 (11):
Mark DeRosa smashed a tiebreaking second-deck homer to lead off the top of the 11th inning as Toronto edged host San Diego to avoid a three-game sweep.

DeRosa’s shot to left off Brad Boxberger (0-1) helped the Blue Jays halt a three-game losing skid. Toronto added a run when Boxberger committed a throwing error following Anthony Gose’s bunt single, and Jose Bautista completed the uprising with a run-scoring double to right.

Colby Rasmus delivered a run-scoring double in the second for the Blue Jays before the Padres tallied four in the bottom of the inning, beginning with Jedd Gyorko’s run-scoring double. Edinson Volquez hit his first major-league homer later in the inning, a three-run line shot off Ramon Ortiz that just cleared the left-field wall.

Toronto’s Edwin Encarnacion hit his 16th homer in the third and Adam Lind smashed a tying two-run double in the fifth. The score remained knotted until the three-run 11th as Casey Janssen (1-0) pitched a scoreless 10th and Aaron Loup finished with a perfect inning for his second major-league save.

Volquez allowed four runs and six hits in five innings. Ortiz, who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to replace injured Brandon Morrow, gave up four runs and five hits before departing with an elbow injury in the third.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Padres SS Everth Cabrera stole two bases to increase his total to 21, tying Boston’s Jacoby Ellsbury for most in the majors. … Lind (3-for-6 on Sunday) went 8-for-17 in the series and Rasmus (2-for-5) went 8-for-16 while Bautista was 1-for-18. … San Diego optioned LHP Robbie Erlin back to Triple-A Tucson one day after he recorded his first major-league victory and recalled Boxberger from Tucson.
