Padres 5, Pirates 2: Jedd Gyorko belted a three-run homer among his three hits and San Diego continued its domination in Pittsburgh.

Eric Stults (9-13) snapped a 10-start winless drought with his first victory since before the All-Star break, allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings as the Padres improved to 30-10 all-time at PNC Park. Tim Stauffer and Nick Vincent combined for three scoreless innings before Luke Gregerson earned his fourth save.

Jeff Locke (10-6) lasted five innings and gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks as the Pirates dropped one behind first-place St. Louis in the National League Central. Marlon Byrd drove in both runs for Pittsburgh, which fell to 6-3 in its last nine.

Gyorko launched his 19th homer in the third to stake the Padres to a 3-0 lead, but the Pirates answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning on Byrd's two-out, two-run single. Byrd attempted to score on Gaby Sanchez's infield hit but was thrown out by shortstop Ronny Cedeno.

San Diego added a run in the fourth on Chris Denorfia's double-play grounder and extended the lead to 5-2 in the seventh on Tommy Medica's RBI single. Cedeno added three hits as the Padres won for the 18th time in their last 21 games in Pittsburgh.
