Phillies 5, Nationals 3: Delmon Young singled home the go-ahead run with two outs and Domonic Brown followed with an RBI double as visiting Philadelphia scored twice in the eighth inning and held on to beat Washington.

Brown and Erik Kratz also homered on consecutive pitches in the second inning and Jimmy Rollins knocked in a run for the Phillies, who have won three of four. Chad Durbin (1-0) retired two batters to get the win and Jonathan Papelbon struck out the side around a hit in the ninth for his ninth save.

Adam LaRoche belted his eighth homer and knocked in two runs while Denard Span contributed three hits and an RBI for Washington. Drew Storen (0-1) gave up two runs on two hits and a walk in the eighth to suffer the loss.

Brown and Kratz each connected with two outs on the first pitch they saw against Washington starter Dan Haren to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead. LaRoche singled in a run in the third and Span matched him in the fourth as Washington tied the game at 2.

Phillies starting pitcher Jonathan Pettibone stroked a double for the first extra-base hit of his career with two outs in the fifth and scored on Rollins’ RBI double for a 3-2 lead. LaRoche responded with a solo blast to center field in the bottom of the frame as the Nationals drew even at 3.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Haren yielded three runs and four hits over six innings, striking out 10 – the most by a Nationals’ pitcher this season. … Pettibone became the first Phillies' rookie to allow three or fewer earned runs in his first seven starts since Charles Hudson in 1983. Pettibone surrendered three runs on nine hits in six innings. … The Nationals called up INF/OF Jeff Kobernus from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday and designated RHP Yunesky Maya for assignment. Kobernus made his major-league debut as a pinch runner in the eighth and stayed on in left field.
