Mets 4, Giants 3 (16):
Eric Young Jr. scored from third base when Brandon Crawford misplayed pinch hitter Anthony Recker’s grounder with two outs in the 16th inning and visiting New York won the opener of the three-game series.

Young singled off George Kontos (2-2) with one out, stole second and moved to third on Daniel Murphy’s groundout before David Wright was intentionally walked. Young scored when Crawford booted Recker’s grounder off Javier Lopez, and Bobby Parnell worked around two baserunners in the 16th for his 16th save after Josh Edgin (1-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings.

The Giants led early when Buster Posey launched a two-run homer in the first off Matt Harvey, who yielded three runs while matching a season high with 121 pitches over seven innings. Posey had a career-high five hits and came within a triple of the cycle for San Francisco, which has lost 12 of its last 14 games.

The Mets answered with a run in the fifth on John Buck’s RBI double before pulling ahead 3-2 in the sixth when Murphy singled in a run and scored on Ike Davis’ double-play grounder. Giants starter Tim Lincecum remained winless since June 4 despite striking out a season-high 11 batters and allowing three runs over seven innings.

San Francisco tied the game in the seventh when Hunter Pence broke an 0-for-24 slump with a leadoff triple and scored on Crawford’s single up the middle. The Giants stranded the bases loaded twice in extra innings and were 1-for-15 overall with runners in scoring position.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Giants 1B Brandon Belt went 0-for-8 with five strikeouts and stranded two runners in the 12th when Greg Burke struck him out to end the inning. … Mets 3B David Wright singled in the sixth inning to extend his hitting streak to nine games. … The Giants placed INF Joaquin Arias on the 15-day disabled list with appendicitis and recalled INF Nick Noonan from Triple-A Fresno.
