Pirates 4, Brewers 3 (12): Andrew McCutchen belted a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 12th inning as host Pittsburgh rallied past Milwaukee.

McCutchen slugged his fifth homer to right-center on a 2-2 pitch off Mike Fiers (0-2) as the Pirates beat the Brewers for just the second time in the past 12 meetings. Vin Mazzaro (2-0) earned the victory with two innings of scoreless relief.

Pittsburgh rallied from a 3-1 deficit with a run in the sixth and plated the tying run on Russell Martin’s double to left with one out in the eighth off John Axford. Jose Tabata finished with three hits, Martin went 2-for-4 and Neil Walker added two hits, two walks and two runs scored.

Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun, who missed Monday’s series opener with a stiff neck, had three hits in his return to the lineup. Carlos Gomez went 2-for-5 to raise his average to .368, leapfrogging teammate Jean Segura (.359) for the NL batting lead.

Segura's seventh home run opened the scoring in the first, while Gomez’s double to left-center plated Braun in the fourth and Segura’s groundout in the fifth scored Norichika Aoki to put the Brewers ahead 3-1. Pittsburgh pulled within 3-2 in the sixth on Clint Barmes’ groundout and won despite going 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Milwaukee starter Kyle Lohse walked five in 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. … Pittsburgh starter Jeff Locke surrendered three runs on seven hits in six innings. … The game was delayed briefly in the top of the 11th when home-plate umpire Fieldin Culbreth took a foul ball off his collarbone. Second base umpire Bill Welke moved behind the plate, and the game continued with three umpires.
