Marlins 2, Phillies 1: Chris Coghlan’s infield single scored Placido Polanco in the bottom of the ninth, allowing host Miami to snap a five-game losing streak and defeat Philadelphia.

Polanco opened the ninth by drawing a walk from Phillippe Aumont (1-1) and Greg Dobbs followed with a grounder that handcuffed first baseman Ryan Howard and bounced into shallow right field, allowing Polanco to advance to third.

Two batters later, Coghlan’s weak grounder to second baseman Chase Utley gave Polanco enough time to score easily from third to end it. Steve Cishek (1-1) pitched a perfect ninth to collect the victory.

Cole Hamels, off to one of the worst starts in his career, retired 14 of the first 16 batters he faced and did not allow his first hit until Adeiny Hechavarria recorded his first career triple in the fifth. Pitcher Jose Fernandez followed with his first major-league hit, a clean RBI single past third baseman Michael Young.

Fernandez was denied a victory by his bullpen for the second time in as many games when reliever A.J. Ramos yielded a single to Domonic Brown and walked Freddy Galvis in the seventh. Erik Kratz grounded out one batter later, but Donovan Solano was unable to turn a double play, allowing Brown to score.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ricky Nolasco and Fernandez – Miami’s starting pitchers in this series – have hits in both their at-bats while the rest of the Marlins’ lineup is a combined 7-for-57. … Philadelphia lost for the first time in four games to the Marlins, but has still won eight of 11 in the series. ... Despite Solano’s throwing error, the official scorer ruled that Ramos’ run was earned since Brown would have scored on Kratz’s groundout.
