Padres 6, Dodgers 3:
Eric Stults hit a three-run homer and pitched six solid innings as visiting San Diego defeated Los Angeles to snap a five-game losing streak.

Alexi Amarista walked and Cameron Maybin had a two-out single before Stults smashed a booming shot to center off Chad Billingsley in the second inning for his first career homer. Stults (2-1) gave up three runs and nine hits to avenge last week’s loss to the Dodgers.

The contest was tied at 3 before San Diego loaded the bases in the seventh against Ronald Belisario (0-2). Chris Denorfia drew a bases-loaded walk off Paco Rodriguez, a second run scored later in the inning when Yonder Alonso hit into a double play and the Padres added a ninth-inning insurance run on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Blanks.

The Dodgers put two runners on base in the eighth but came up empty when Padres reliever Luke Gregerson threw to first to retire Skip Schumaker on a tapper and A.J. Ellis was doubled up at home trying to score from third to end the inning. Huston Street pitched the ninth for his second save.

Los Angeles battled back from a 3-0 deficit with runs in three straight innings. Adrian Gonzalez delivered a ground-rule double in the third, Carl Crawford hit a run-scoring single in the fourth and Ellis tied the game with a ground single to right in the fifth.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
There were no altercations in the opener, the first meeting between the teams since Padres OF Carlos Quentin was hit by a pitch and broke the left collarbone of Dodgers RHP Zack Greinke in the ensuing benches-clearing brawl Thursday. Quentin is serving an eight-game suspension. … Padres 3B Chase Headley (thumb) could make his season debut as soon as Tuesday. … Billingsley gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings.
