Marwin Gonzalez hit the go-ahead homer in the third inning as Houston beat visiting Seattle for just its second victory in 10 games.

Bud Norris (3-2) labored through five innings but allowed only one run despite giving up eight hits and two walks. Jose Veras worked a flawless ninth for his second save as the Astros handed the Mariners their sixth loss in eight games.

Seattle tied the score at 1 on a two-out double by Endy Chavez in the second. Gonzalez broke the tie by smacking a leadoff homer to right off Hisashi Iwakuma (2-1) in the third inning and Houston pushed its lead to 3-1 later in the inning when Justin Maxwell was hit on the left hand with the bases loaded.

Maxwell left the game after the fourth inning. X-rays revealed a broken bone in his hand and he was immediately placed on the disabled list.

Kendrys Morales hit a booming homer to left in the eighth to get the Mariners within one. Iwakuma struck out 11 in five innings and allowed three runs (two earned), six hits and three walks.
