Mariners 7, Astros 1:
Felix Hernandez struck out nine in six shutout innings while notching his 100th career victory as visiting Seattle beat Houston in the opener of a three-game series.

Kyle Seager and Jesus Montero hit two-run homers while Kendrys Morales added a solo shot as the Mariners won for only the second time in seven games. Houston has lost eight of its last nine contests.

Dustin Ackley had three hits as Seattle racked up 12 overall to give Hernandez (2-2) plenty of support. Hernandez allowed five hits and walked one while winning in his fourth attempt to record No. 100.

Seager’s homer to right in the third gave the Mariners a 3-0 lead and Montero’s mammoth blast to left-center field in the following inning boosted the lead to five. Morales led off the fifth with Seattle’s third homer off Brad Peacock (1-2), who allowed seven runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Rick Ankiel homered off Carter Capps in the seventh for Houston.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Seager went 2-for-5 and extended his hitting streak to 11 games. … Houston 3B Matt Dominguez (elbow) was held out one day after being hit by a pitch from Cleveland’s Chris Perez. X-rays were negative. … Mariners CF Franklin Gutierrez exited after four innings with hamstring tightness and will be evaluated Tuesday.
