Rockies 9, Padres 5: Wilin Rosario had a career-high four hits and matched a career best with three RBIs, including a two-run homer, and visiting Colorado defeated San Diego for the fifth time in as many meetings this season.
Michael Cuddyer also hit a two-run homer and Troy Tulowitzki added a pair of RBIs as the Rockies built an 8-2 lead by scoring in each of the first four innings. Jhoulys Chacin (2-1) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings while Todd Helton and Carlos Gonzalez (three hits) each scored twice and drove in run.
Everth Cabrera matched a career high with four hits while falling a double short of the cycle and had two RBIs while Will Venable also hit a solo home run for the Padres, who fell to 2-9. Edinson Volquez (0-3) allowed seven runs (six earned), six hits and walked three in 3 1/3 innings, raising his ERA to 11.68.
Rosario gave the Rockies the lead for good 3-1 with his fourth homer after Helton reached on an error to lead off the second inning. Colorado added two more in the third when Helton stroked a two-out RBI double and Rosario followed with a run-scoring single.
Colorado took an 8-2 lead in the fourth inning as Gonzalez produced an RBI double and, two batters later, Cuddyer homered to left. Venable and Cabrera went deep in the seventh, but the Padres couldn't score with runners at second and third and none out after Alexi Amarista's double made it 9-5 in the eighth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: San Diego LF Carlos Quentin did not start Saturday and popped out in a pinch-hitting role with one out in the eighth. Quentin was suspended eight games for charging the mound in a benches-clearing incident against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, but is appealing. ... Helton recorded his 572nd double, tying him for 20th on the all-time list with Ivan Rodriguez. ... Cabrera, who led the National League with 44 steals last season, was caught stealing by Rosario for the second straight game. Rosario has cut down 4-of-6 would-be basestealers in 2013.
