Pirates 1, Tigers 0 (11): Russell Martin crushed a game-ending single off the left-field fence as host Pittsburgh claimed three of four from Detroit and won for the 16th time in 20 games.

Neil Walker started the 11th with a single, Andrew McCutchen walked and Gaby Sanchez slapped a single through the left side to start the winning rally against Luke Putkonen (1-1). Martin jumped on a 2-2 fastball and laced it off the wall to end it.

Pittsburgh's bullpen allowed only four baserunners in 5 2/3 scoreless innings with Bryan Morris (3-2) earning the win after pitching a perfect 11th. Detroit's Doug Fister was outstanding, striking out 12 - one shy of his career high - in seven innings of four-hit ball.

Pirates starter Jeff Locke worked out of a couple of jams, scattering seven hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings, but the lack of run support kept him from winning his sixth straight start. Locke has worked 19 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings, the longest streak by a Pittsburgh pitcher since Charlie Morton went 24 innings in 2011.

The Pirates strung together three straight hits in the fourth but had a runner caught stealing and didn't manage to score, and Detroit was unable to push across a run despite four consecutive hits in the fifth. Right fielder Travis Snider threw out Matt Tuiasosopo at the plate following Avisail Garcia's single to preserve the scoreless tie.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Tigers SS Jhonny Peralta was ejected by home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez after being called out on strikes to end the fourth. Peralta went 0-for-2, snapping a 10-game hitting streak. … Fister hit Walker in the first inning and has plunked at least one hitter in eight of his 11 starts. He leads the majors with 12 hit batters. … Every Tigers starting pitcher has recorded 10 or more strikeouts at least once this season.
