Rockies 12, Reds 4: Carlos Gonzalez hit three of Colorado's six home runs, and Troy Tulowitzki was 5-for-5 and went deep twice as the visiting Rockies took two of three from the best home team in the majors.

Gonzalez's three-run blast - at 476 feet the longest in the majors this season - came in the fourth and gave the Rockies a 6-4 lead. He hit a solo shot in the first and completed his second career three-homer game with his 17th of the season - a two-run shot in the eighth - to also match a career high with six RBIs.

Todd Helton added a two-run homer and Jon Garland (4-6) snapped a four-game losing streak in winning for the first time in six starts. Garland allowed four runs - all in the first inning - and four hits in six frames while recording 11 ground-ball outs and going 2-for-3 with a double as Colorado collected a season-high 20 hits.

Cincinnati's Pedro Villarreal (0-1) allowed six runs and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings in his first major-league start. He took Johnny Cueto's spot in the rotation after Cueto on Wednesday was placed on the 15-day disabled list for the second time this season with a lat strain.

Xavier Paul hit a three-run homer and Todd Frazier had an RBI single for the Reds, who fell to 21-9 at home. The Reds managed only three baserunners after the first inning - Jack Hannahan's double in the fourth inning and walk in the seventh, and Frazier's infield hit in the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Rockies last hit six home runs in a game July 4, 2008, when they defeated Florida Marlins 18-17 after trailing 13-4. ... Colorado rookie 3B Nolan Arenado snapped a 19-for-100 slump with four hits and three runs scored while Tulowitzki's five hits matched a career high. ... Villarreal, whose only previous major-league experience was a perfect inning of relief against Philadelphia on Sept. 5, 2012, was 1-3 with a 5.03 ERA in 59 innings at Triple-A Louisville.
