Yankees 6, Indians 4: Brett Gardner belted a three-run homer while Travis Hafner added a two-run shot as host New York built an early six-run lead and completed a three-game sweep of Cleveland.

CC Sabathia (6-4) registered his 36th career complete game, setting down the first 14 batters he faced and allowing four runs on seven hits. He struck out nine to move past Dwight Gooden and into 47th place on the all-time list with 2,294.

Yan Gomes hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 6-4 for Cleveland, which tumbled to its eighth consecutive road loss and fell to 4-12 in its last 16 games overall. Indians starter Corey Kluber (3-4) gave up six runs - four earned - and fanned eight in six innings.

Kluber was hurt by a first-inning miscue from center fielder Michael Bourn, who dropped Robinson Cano's fly ball for a two-base error. That led to a two-out homer by Hafner, his 10th of the year and seventh in 70 at-bats at Yankee Stadium.

New York broke it open in the second when Gardner capped a four-run frame with his sixth homer – one shy of his career high. Cleveland chipped away with two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings – getting an RBI single from Jason Kipnis and Gomes' sixth homer – but Sabathia shut the door the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Drug agents in suburban Cleveland are investigating a narcotics delivery to the home of injured Indians closer Chris Perez. No charges have been filed as of Wednesday but the matter remains under investigation. ... Yankees manager Joe Girardi said the ESPN report on Major League Baseball's plan to suspend at least 20 players linked to the Biogenesis clinic in Miami – including New York's Alex Rodriguez and Francisco Cervelli – will not be a distraction to his team. ... Cleveland has a day off before continuing its nine-game road trip with three games at Detroit starting on Friday while the Yankees kick off a 10-game West Coast swing Thursday in Seattle.
