Cardinals 5, Cubs 4:
Jon Jay drove in two, including the go-ahead run in the eighth, as visiting St. Louis earned a two-game split with rival Chicago.

Carlos Beltran added three hits and two RBIs and Matt Carpenter scored twice for the Cardinals, who have won seven of eight. Jake Westbrook entered with the lowest ERA in the majors at 1.07, but was reached for four runs (three earned) and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings before handing it off to the bullpen.

Yadier Molina singled and moved up on a wild pitch before Jay took a 1-1 offering from Michael Bowden (1-2) and lined it into center for the go-ahead run. Rookie Seth Maness (2-0) picked up the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and Edward Mujica worked the ninth for his ninth save.

St. Louis grabbed a 2-1 lead on Jay’s sacrifice fly in the fourth but the Cubs struck back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to jump on top. Nate Schierholtz’s two-run double made it 3-2 and he came in to score two batters later on Dioner Navarro’s RBI groundout to make it a two-run gap.

St. Louis pulled within a run on Beltran’s RBI single in the fifth, and he struck again in the seventh with another run-scoring single to knot it at 4. Anthony Rizzo had three hits for Chicago, which closed out a 10-game homestand 4-6.
