Braves 2, Marlins 0: Justin Upton continued his scorching start by going 4-for-4 and belting his major league-leading sixth homer as Atlanta spoiled Miami’s home opener.

The Braves held the punchless Marlins to two hits, winning for the sixth time in seven games. Paul Maholm (2-0) gave up Placido Polanco’s single to center with two outs in the third but nothing else in seven sparkling innings, and Craig Kimbrel pitched around a single and a walk in the ninth for his third save.

Upton connected off Miami starter Kevin Slowey (0-2) with one out in the sixth, blasting a solo homer to left to give Atlanta a 2-0 lead. Upton started the day tied with Seattle’s Michael Morse for the majors’ home run lead, and his big night raised his average to .423.

Slowey pitched well, giving up two runs on six hits in seven innings. Miami dropped to 1-6 and has been shut out three times.

Atlanta broke a scoreless tie in the fourth. Upton led off the inning with a double to left, moved to third on an Evan Gattis’ flyout and scored on Dan Uggla’s groundout to short.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Braves worked around Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton all night, walking him three times. Stanton finished 0-for-1 with a strikeout, his average dropping to .174. … Upton did not hit his sixth homer last season until June 20. … Atlanta 3B Chris Johnson, who came with Upton in an off-season trade with Arizona, finished 3-for-4.
