Giants 3, Red Sox 2: Marco Scutaro drew a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to push across the winning run as San Francisco came back to stun visiting Boston.

The Giants tied it in the eighth when Shane Victorino elected to make a catch in foul territory on Buster Posey’s fly ball instead of letting it drop, allowing Scutaro to score on the sacrifice fly. Franklin Morales (2-1) came on for the ninth and loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a hit by pitch before Brayan Villarreal came in and threw four straight balls to Scutaro.

Brandon Belt finished a home run shy of the cycle and Joaquin Arias tripled in a run for the Giants, who evened the series at a game apiece. The Red Sox dropped back into a tie for first place in the American League East with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Boston loaded the bases twice in the first inning but only came away with one run when Jacoby Ellsbury scored on Mike Carp’s sacrifice fly to right. Victorino led off the third and lined a 3-2 fastball into the seats in left to double the advantage.

The Giants cut it to 2-1 on Arias’ triple in the fifth but could not get him home as second baseman Dustin Pedroia made two diving plays with the infield drawn in to keep the runner at third and shortstop Xander Bogaerts charged a high hopper and just got the throw across in time to highlight his major-league debut. Sergio Romo (4-6) worked a scoreless inning of relief to pick up the win.
