Red Sox 7, Angels 2 (Game 2): David Ortiz hit a long home run among three RBIs and Dustin Pedroia plated a pair as Boston earned a split of a day-night doubleheader with visiting Los Angeles.

Jonny Gomes drove in a run and scored twice in support of Clay Buchholz (9-0), who allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings to become the first American League pitcher with nine wins. The right-hander, who left with a stiff neck, had his major league-leading ERA rise from 1.62 to 1.71.

Mike Trout and Mark Trumbo each recorded an RBI for Los Angeles, which took the opener 9-5 but had its nine-game winning streak against the Red Sox come to an end in the nightcap. C.J. Wilson (4-5) was reached for four runs (three earned) and eight hits in five innings.

Boston wasted little time jumping on Wilson as Shane Victorino led off the first with a single and Gomes and Pedroia followed with back-to-back doubles to plate two quick runs. Ortiz’s run-scoring double in the second made it a 3-0 gap, and David Ross restored the three-run advantage in the fifth with an RBI single.

The Angels drew within 4-2 on Trumbo’s sacrifice fly in the sixth, but the Red Sox responded in the bottom of the frame. Pedroia delivered a two-out RBI single to right in front of Ortiz, who blasted an inside fastball from Jerome Williams deep into the seats in right field.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Buchholz called for the trainer with two outs in the seventh and left the game with the neck injury. He had been hit on the glove hand with a comebacker in the previous inning and had made a tumbling play at first base earlier in the contest. … Pedroia and Red Sox 3B Jose Iglesias each extended their respective hitting streaks to 12 games. … Angels OF Brad Hawpe was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts and an error in left field. Hawpe had not played in the major leagues since 2011 after undergoing Tommy John surgery and bouncing around through a few organizations.
