Diamondbacks 3, Giants 1:
Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-out, three-run homer off Jeremy Affeldt in the eighth inning as host Arizona rallied to win the opener of the three-game series.

Matt Cain worked seven scoreless innings before giving way to Affeldt (1-2) after A.J. Pollock singled to lead off the eighth. Willie Bloomquist walked with two outs, setting up Goldschmidt’s 15th home run into the right-field seats.

Arizona starter Patrick Corbin was charged with one run on seven hits with no walks over 7 1/3 innings, but he was replaced by Brad Ziegler (3-1) after giving up a one-out double by Marco Scutaro in the eighth. Ziegler retired the next two batters before Heath Bell worked around a two-out single in the ninth for his 11th save.

Gregor Blanco broke a scoreless tie in the seventh with a two-out RBI single off Corbin, who was looking to become the majors’ first 10-game winner. Blanco’s hit scored Pablo Sandoval, who singled with one out and moved to second on Brandon Belt’s single before reaching third on Joaquin Arias' flyout.

Scutaro and Sandoval had two hits apiece for the Giants, who fell to 10-18 away from AT&T Park after dropping the first game of their nine-game road trip. Cain settled in after throwing 31 pitches in the first inning and gave up one run on four hits over seven frames.
