Daniel Descalso contributed three hits, including a two-run homer in the fourth, and Matt Holliday clubbed a two-run shot in the first inning for the Cardinals.

Diamondbacks starter Ian Kennedy (3-4) allowed a career-high 10 earned runs and 13 hits in four innings. Gerardo Parra had three hits and two runs scored and Didi Gregorius and Cliff Pennington each had two hits and an RBI for Arizona.

After both teams scored twice in the first inning, the Cardinals jumped on Kennedy in the fourth. Adams went deep to give St. Louis an 8-2 lead and Descalso capped the inning with his home run to make it 10-2.
