Rookie Tyler Skaggs struck out a career-high nine over six shutout innings in his season debut and host Arizona hung on to win the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

Cody Ross homered while Martin Prado, Paul Goldschmidt, A.J. Pollock and Eric Hinske also drove in runs for the Diamondbacks, who have won three of their last four games. Skaggs (1-0) allowed three hits and three walks, and didn't allow the leadoff batter to reach after the first inning.

Texas' Martin Perez (0-1), who was also making his 2013 debut, allowed four runs (three earned) and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings. The Rangers scored three runs in the ninth inning, including a two-run single by Adrian Beltre.

Arizona scored in the second inning when Prado delivered a two-out RBI single, and added two in the third on Pollock's run-scoring double and Goldschmidt's RBI single. The Diamondbacks took a 4-0 lead in the fifth when Ross ripped Perez's 1-1 offering into the left field seats.

Hinske delivered a pinch-hit RBI double in the eighth inning. The Rangers loaded the bases with one out in the ninth against Tony Sipp and after Heath Bell allowed an RBI single to Jurickson Profar and Beltre's hit, he struck out Nelson Cruz and retired Mitch Moreland on a groundout for his ninth save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Skaggs was to be optioned back to Triple-A Reno following the game while Perez was likely headed for Triple-A Round Rock. ...
