Cardinals 6, Diamondbacks 1: Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie as visiting St. Louis evened its season-opening series with
Arizona.

Rookie Pete Kozma and Jon Jay added home runs in the seventh inning while Matt Carpenter collected two doubles for the Cardinals, who had 10 hits. Jaime Garcia (1-0) allowed one run, two hits and yielded three of his four walks in the sixth inning before leaving with two outs.

Miguel Montero homered among his two hits to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead. Trevor Cahill (0-1) allowed three runs, five hits and struck out seven in 5 2/3
innings for Arizona, which managed only three hits following its 15-hit outburst in Monday's 6-2 victory.

Holliday reached down and out of the strike zone to line Cahill's 2-2 sinker just over the left field wall. Arizona had a chance to respond in its half of the sixth, but
reliever Edward Mujica got out of the bases-loaded jam when he caught pinch hitter Jason Kubel looking at a 3-2 fastball.

Kozma drove reliever Heath Bell's first pitch in an Arizona uniform over the center field wall. Shane Robinson worked a walk after falling behind 0-2 and Jay
crushed Bell's next offering high off the right field foul pole to make it 6-1.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Carpenter is 3-for-9 with three doubles and has also played exceptionally well filling in for David Freese at third base. Freese could possibly return Monday. ... Bell retired one of the five batters he faced and allowed a double and single after the home runs. ... St. Louis reliever Trevor Rosenthal reached 100-mph on the radar gun in striking out Paul Goldschmidt and Montero in the eighth inning.
