Orioles 7, Indians 2: Matt Wieters recorded four hits, including a two-run homer to seal it in the ninth inning, and Bud Norris pitched seven strong innings as visiting Baltimore claimed the opener of the three-game series.

Nate McLouth added a two-run homer and three RBIs while Brian Roberts knocked in a pair for the Orioles, who moved within two games of Tampa Bay for the second American League wild-card spot. Norris (10-10) allowed one run and four hits in his first career meeting against the Indians to set a career high in victories.

Cleveland starter Justin Masterson (14-10) left the game in the second inning due to soreness in his left rib cage after giving up a single to Wieters. Lonnie Chisenhall had a double and a homer and Michael Brantley collected three hits for the Indians, who remain 3 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay in the wild-card race.

Preston Guilmet replaced Masterson, who was charged with one run in one inning, and the Orioles built a three-run rally. McLouth plated the first tally with a double and Roberts’ two-base hit to center field brought home two more for a 3-0 lead.

McLouth hammered his 10th homer of the season, a two-run shot off Nick Hagadone, in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-0. Norris limited the Indians to two hits over six innings before Jason Kipnis led off the seventh with his 17th homer, and Chisenhall belted his ninth to open the eighth off reliever Tommy Hunter.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Norris is 4-0 in seven starts, losing at Arizona in one relief appearance, since being acquired from Houston at the trade deadline. His previous high win total was in 2010 when he went 9-10 with Houston in his second major-league season. … Kipnis tied his career high, set last season, with his 76th RBI. … McLouth was 1-for-16 in his previous six games.
