Orioles 2, Yankees 1: Adam Jones slammed a two-run homer off Mariano Rivera in the top of the ninth inning as visiting Baltimore snapped New York's six-game winning streak and avoided a three-game sweep.

Jones' 16th homer, a one-out shot into the seats in left field, came one batter after Nick Markakis collected his third hit with a single to hand Rivera his second blown save in 31 chances. Darren O'Day (5-0) retired the final two batters in the eighth before Jim Johnson worked a perfect ninth for his 30th save.

The stunning turn of events spoiled a superb performance from Yankees starter Hiroki Kuroda, who allowed three hits over seven scoreless innings and retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced. Rivera had converted 41 straight saves at Yankee Stadium and entered the game with 76 career saves versus the Orioles - his most against any opponent.

Baltimore right-hander Jason Hammel (7-6) labored from the outset and threw 102 pitchers in his five-inning stint, allowing one run on six hits as his winless streak extended to seven starts. T.J. McFarland followed him with two hitless innings.

The Yankees scored in the second inning when Zoilo Almonte drew a leadoff walk, moved to third on Lyle Overbay's single and scored on Eduardo Nunez's third RBI in two games. The lead held up until the ninth when Rivera surrendered only his second homer of the season and first since April 23.
