Davis walked and Wieters singled to open the third inning. With one out, Navarro fought off an inside fastball and served a soft line drive to left field for an RBI single to tie the game 1-1. After Hammel sacrificed the runners to second and third, Markakis delivered a two-run single to left-center.

Wieters' sacrifice fly made it 4-1 in the fifth inning before Washington's Denard Span tripled to lead off the sixth and scored on Zimmerman's one-out single through the right side. The Orioles restored their three-run lead in the seventh on Navarro's run-scoring single and made it 6-2 in the eighth on Jones' RBI hit.
