Dodgers 4, Padres 3 (11):
A.J. Ellis hit an RBI single with two outs in the 11th inning after Andre Ethier’s game-tying homer in the ninth as the Dodgers won the opener of the three-game series.

Ellis singled to right field off Cory Burns (0-1) after Ethier and Luis Cruz each singled with two outs. The win keeps Los Angeles 4 1/2 games behind National League West-leading San Francisco and one-half game back of St. Louis in the wild-card race.

Brandon League (1-1) earned the victory with two scoreless innings for the Dodgers, who recorded their 10th walkoff win this season and second in as many games.

Ethier tied the game at three with one out in the ninth when his 16th homer off Luke Gregerson barely cleared the right field wall.

The Padres led early when Chase Headley belted a two-run homer in the first off Joe Blanton, who gave up three runs over 6 2/3 innings.

San Diego rookie Andrew Werner gave up two runs with eight strikeouts in his third major league start.

The Dodgers trailed 2-1 in the sixth before Hanley Ramirez hit his 10th home run in 38 games with the Dodgers over the outstretched glove of Cameron Maybin at the center field fence.

San Diego broke the 2-all tie in the seventh when Werner singled with one out and moved to second on Logan Forsythe’s base hit. Werner was replaced by pinch runner Clayton Richard, who scored easily on Headley’s single up the middle.

Headley, who had four hits and a career-best six RBIs in Sunday’s 11-10 loss to Colorado, is batting .360 (18-for-50) with 16 RBIs in his last 12 games. He has six homers and 17 RBIs against the Dodgers this season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dodgers LHP Randy Choate left the game after being struck on the left hand by Forsythe’s comebacker in the seventh. …The Padres dropped to 18-19 in one-run games. … Padres OF Carlos Quentin was scratched from the starting lineup with right knee irritation and flied out as a pinch hitter in the 11th. …Matt Kemp went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts, and Ramirez fanned three times.
