Padres 5, Rockies 4: Carlos Quentin homered and drove in two runs while Clayton Richard posted his fifth victory in six starts as visiting San Diego improved to 10-1 over its last 11 games.

Quentin gave the Padres a lead they would not relinquish as he led off the second inning with his 15th blast of the season. The slugger added an RBI ground-rule double in the fifth that put San Diego ahead 4-1.

Richard (12-12) allowed three runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings en route to his first win in four career decisions at Coors Field. The left-hander has yielded three runs or less in six of his last seven outings.

Three relievers bridged the gap to Luke Gregerson, who served up a leadoff homer by Andrew Brown in the ninth before notching his third save.

After Quentin got San Diego on the board, Logan Forsythe doubled the lead later in the second with an RBI infield single that bounced up and hit Colorado shortstop Josh Rutledge in the face. Chase Headley made it 3-0 in the third with a run-scoring groundout.

Rutledge helped generate the Rockies' first run as he delivered a one-out double in the bottom of the frame and scored on Jordan Pacheco's groundout. Pacheco and Wilin Rosario hit solo homers in the sixth to get Colorado within 4-3, but pinch hitter Chris Denorfia created some much-needed breathing room in the eighth with an RBI infield single.

Colorado's Alex White (2-7) again failed to last more than four innings, surrendering three runs and four hits over 3 2/3 frames. The right-hander has pitched four innings or less in each of his last six starts.

Rosario and Brown had two hits apiece for the Rockies, who are 2-2 on their six-game homestand.
