Giants 9, Rockies 6: Hunter Pence broke a 6-6 tie with a three-run homer as host San Francisco rallied with five runs in the eighth inning to stun Colorado.

Melky Cabrera had two hits and three RBIs and Brandon Belt went 4-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for the Giants, who maintained their one-game lead over Los Angeles in the National League West and defeated the Rockies for the 15th time in the last 19 meetings.

San Francisco loaded the bases with none out in the eighth inning against Matt Belisle (3-4). After Cabrera's infield hit made it 6-5, former Rockie Marco Scutaro flew out to short left field. Closer Rafael Betancourt entered and yielded a sacrifice fly to Buster Posey to tie the game before Pence crushed an 0-1 pitch into the left-field seats to send the 142nd straight sellout crowd at AT&T Park into a frenzy.

Pence, who received a standing ovation when he took his position in right field in the ninth inning, is 8-for-52 since joining San Francisco at the trade deadline from Philadelphia.

Betancourt hadn't allowed a hit in his last seven appearances and had converted his last eight save opportunities.

Clay Hensley (4-3) allowed one run and three hits in two innings for the Giants, who won for only the third time in their last 11 games at home.

The Rockies received two RBIs from pitchers, including reliever Carlos Torres' first major league hit that gave the Rockies a 5-4 lead in the sixth inning. Starter Alex White's sacrifice fly - his first major league RBI - tied the game 3-3 in the third.

Eric Young Jr., rookie Josh Rutledge and DJ LeMahieu had RBI doubles for the Rockies, who were bidding for back-to-back road series wins for the first time this season but settled for a 3-3 trip.

Giants starter Barry Zito allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.
