Rangers 4, Mariners 2: Mike Napoli hit a three-run homer and Matt Harrison pitched eight strong innings to lead host Texas to its fourth consecutive victory.

Napoli broke a 1-1 tie with a mammoth opposite-field blast off Steve Delabar (1-1) in the sixth inning that caromed off the façade of the second-deck in right field to send Seattle to its fifth consecutive loss.

Harrison (6-3) allowed two runs and seven hits in eight innings to defeat the Mariners for the second time in seven days. Harrison struck out five and walked none while boosting his career mark to 8-1 against Seattle.

Joe Nathan pitched the ninth and retired Justin Smoak on a game-ending, double-play grounder for his 11th save in 12 chances.

The Mariners pulled within 4-2 in the eighth when Michael Saunders singled and scored on a triple by Brendan Ryan. The hit by Ryan eluded Craig Gentry’s diving attempt in shallow center field and Ryan tried to circle the bases, but he was thrown out at the plate on strong relay throws by Rangers right fielder Nelson Cruz and second baseman Ian Kinsler.

Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the first on a run-scoring single by Jesus Montero. Texas tied the score in the second on Cruz’s homer to right.

Mariners starter Kevin Millwood allowed one run and four hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked two.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas outfielder Josh Hamilton missed the game with an upper respiratory infection and hopes to return Tuesday … The Mariners had a season-long streak of steals in five consecutive games snapped. … Napoli has homered in back-to-back games after not going deep since April 25 against the New York Yankees. … Mariners second baseman Dustin Ackley didn’t start due to his 2-for-19 slump and 0-for-15 career mark against Harrison.
