Brewers 6, Pirates 0: Yovani Gallardo recorded his eighth consecutive victory after scattering two hits over 6 2/3 solid innings as visiting Milwaukee moved past Pittsburgh in the race for the National League's second wild card.

Rookie Jean Segura had two RBI singles and Norichika Aoki also drove in a pair. Carlos Gomez and Jonathan Lucroy collected three hits apiece and Ryan Braun added a run-scoring single as the Brewers posted their 21st win in 27 outings to climb within 2 1/2 games of St. Louis.

Gallardo (16-8) allowed a two-out single by Clint Barmes in the second inning and silenced the Pirates' bats until Neil Walker singled in the seventh. The right-hander exited with the bases loaded in the frame, but Jim Henderson induced Michael McKenry to pop out to end the threat.

Walker finished with two hits for the struggling Pirates, who fell for the ninth time in 11 contests to drop 3 1/2 games behind the Cardinals.

Aoki provided all the offense Milwaukee would need in the second inning after depositing a curveball from A.J. Burnett (15-8) into left field to plate Travis Ishikawa.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gallardo avenged a brutal outing against Pittsburgh on Sept. 2, when he yielded seven runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. He avoided the loss after Milwaukee rebounded to post a 12-8 triumph. ... Burnett suffered his fourth straight setback after permitting two runs on seven hits in six innings. ... Milwaukee has won nine of 13 meetings against its NL Central rival.
