Brewers 9, Padres 5
: Corey Hart homered twice and Martin Maldonado added a three-run blast as host Milwaukee opened the lone intraleague series of the weekend with a victory.

Taylor Green hit a pinch-hit two-run homer and Aramis Ramirez added an RBI and a run scored for the Brewers, who have won three straight.

The Padres have lost three in a row and 11 of 13 to drop behind the Chicago Cubs for the worst record in baseball.

Hart got it started right away against Edinson Volquez, leading off the first with an opposite-field blast to right.

The Padres tied it in the third on Everth Cabrera’s inside-the-park home run, which got underneath center fielder Carlos Gomez's diving attempt and rolled all the way to the wall. Shaun Marcum walked Cabrera with the bases loaded in the fourth to give San Diego a 2-1 lead.

But Maldonado struck in the bottom of the frame. The rookie catcher got an 0-1 fastball over the inside part of the plate from Volquez and belted it into the left-field stands, giving Milwaukee a 4-2 edge.

Volquez (2-6) allowed Hart’s second blast - his 13th of the season - in the fifth and was charged with six runs and six hits in five innings. The right-hander walked four and struck out four.

Marcum (5-3) struggled through 5 2/3 innings but managed to wiggle out of excessive damage, surrendering three runs on six hits while walking three and striking out six.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marcum has won three straight starts, piling up 23 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings. … Volquez has lost each of his last four decisions and has not made it through seven innings in any of his last seven turns. … Ramirez (hamstring) was making his first start since June 2. He went 2-for-4. … Cameron Maybin hit a solo home run - his third - for San Diego.
