Rolen led off the eighth with a triple off the center-field wall against Jared Hughes (2-1) and scored on a high-chopping infield out by Todd Frazier.

Jonathan Broxton (1-0) worked a scoreless eighth and Aroldis Chapman struck out two in the ninth for his 25th save in 29 opportunities as Cincinnati moved 5 1/2 games ahead of Pittsburgh in the National League Central.

Rolen’s two-run single in the first inning gave the Reds an early lead but Pittsburgh received a leadoff homer by Michael McKenry in the second and a sacrifice fly by Neil Walker in the third to tie the contest.

The Reds took a 3-2 lead in the third on a run-scoring double by Ryan Ludwick and increased the lead to two later in the frame on an infield single by Frazier.

Pittsburgh pulled within 4-3 when Josh Harrison hit a two-out homer off Mike Leake. Harrison had been plunked with a pitch by Leake in his previous at-bat. A sacrifice fly in the sixth by Travis Snider tied the score at 4-4.
