Reds 7, Padres 6: Brandon Phillips hit a tie-breaking home run in the seventh inning - one of three Cincinnati homers - and the Reds outslugged visiting San Diego to even the series at a game apiece.

Ryan Ludwick and Todd Frazier also homered for the Reds, who have won 11 of 12 and moved ahead of Washington for the best record in the majors at 62-41.

All three Reds homers came against starter Jason Marquis (4-6), who allowed seven runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings.

The Reds staked Homer Bailey to a 6-0 lead with most of the damage coming on Ludwick's three-run blast and Frazier's two-run shot in the five-run third.

For the second straight night, the Reds' starter was unable to hold an early advantage. The Padres rallied for six in the fourth to chase Bailey, who entered the game as a strong candidate for National League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Cameron Maybin's three-run homer sparked the big inning against Bailey, who was 4-0 with a 1.43 ERA in four July starts before getting shelled for six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings.

The Reds' bullpen picked up Bailey with 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Sam LeCure worked 2 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, Sean Marshall (4-3) pitched the seventh and eighth without allowing a baserunner for the win, and Aroldis Chapman worked a perfect ninth for his 22nd save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Phillips left the game in the eighth with a minor left calf strain. … Reds 3B Scott Rolen extended his hitting streak to nine games. … The Reds acquired RHP Jonathan Broxton from Kansas City for minor-league pitchers J.C. Sulbaran and Donnie Joseph. … The Padres placed C Yasmani Grandal on the disabled list with a strained right oblique and called up C Eddy Rodriguez from Single-A Lake Elsinore.
