Reds 5, Cardinals 3: Ryan Hanigan tied the score with an infield hit and an Allen Craig throwing error brought home the go-ahead run on the same play as host Cincinnati won its fourth straight game.

The Reds trailed by a run when they loaded the bases in the seventh against St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright. Hanigan hit a slow roller that Craig fielded, but the first baseman's underhand toss was wild and behind Wainwright and allowed Jay Bruce to score the tiebreaking run.

Zack Cozart hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to give Cincinnati a 4-2 lead.

Shane Robinson had a pinch-hit single in the eighth to move St. Louis within 4-3 before Cincinnati’s Ryan Ludwick got the run back with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the inning.

Aroldis Chapman allowed one hit while striking out three in the ninth for his 12th save in 16 opportunities.

Wainwright (7-9) allowed four runs and five hits in 6 1/3 innings. He gave up just two hits through six innings before Brandon Phillips and Bruce began the seventh with singles. Wainwright departed after the play in which Cincinnati took the lead.

St. Louis struck first on Skip Schumaker’s single to right-center field in the second, and made it 2-0 in the third on a fielder’s choice by Matt Holliday.

The Reds got on the board in the fifth on Todd Frazier’s one-out homer to right.

Alfredo Simon (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings for Cincinnati.

Reds starter Mat Latos gave up two runs and four hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked three.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Latos hasn’t lost since St. Louis roughed him up for eight runs in 5 2/3 innings back on April 18. … Holliday had a ninth-inning single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. … Phillips had three hits and has recorded multi-hit outings in three of the last five games. … Cardinals C Yadier Molina had two hits in his first appearance since July 5 due to the death of his wife’s grandfather in Puerto Rico.
