Giants 4, Reds 3:
Cincinnati right fielder Jay Bruce misjudged Angel Pagan's fly ball in the bottom of the ninth inning, enabling the winning run to score and San Francisco to split its four-game series with Cincinnati.

With two outs, All-Star Buster Posey doubled off Jose Arredondo (4-2) and Pablo Sandoval was intentionally walked. Pagan lofted one to deep right that appeared to be a relatively routine play, but it sailed over Bruce's head and the Giants celebrated as Posey crossed the plate.

Posey added a pair of RBI singles and Ryan Theriot reached base four times and scored the Giants' other three runs.

Trailing 3-2, Cincinnati led off the ninth with four consecutive singles, the last an RBI hit by Miguel Cairo. But if not for conservative baserunning, Cincinnati would have taken the lead. Giants reliever Santiago Casilla took advantage, getting two strikeouts and a lineout to keep the game tied.

Todd Frazier hit a two-run homer and made a sparkling defensive play for the Reds.

Frazier sent a hanging breaking ball over the fence in left for a 2-1 Reds’ lead in the fifth. The Giants tied it in the bottom half on Melky Cabrera’s RBI hit.

Ryan Vogelsong, who entered with a 1.85 home ERA dating to last season, allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings. Bronson Arroyo pitched six innings for the Reds, allowing two runs on seven hits.

Tensions escalated in the sixth inning when Arroyo threw high and inside on Vogelsong. Earlier, Vogelsong hit Brandon Phillips and Arroyo hit Posey.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The Reds were without first baseman Joey Votto, who left Saturday's game because of inflammation in his left knee. … Reds third baseman Scott Rolen was scratched because of back spasms.
