Brewers 7, Cubs 4: Alex Gonzalez powered a five-run first inning with a three-run homer as Milwaukee won its second consecutive game at Chicago.

The Brewers sent 10 men to the plate in the first inning against Chicago starter Paul Maholm (0-1). Ryan Braun’s sacrifice fly scored Rickie Weeks, and Carlos Gomez scored on Aramis Ramirez’s fielder’s choice to give Milwaukee a 2-0 lead.

After Maholm hit Corey Hart with a pitch, Gonzalez unloaded a three-run homer to left to make it 5-0. Jonathan Lucroy added a solo homer in the third for the Brewers, pushing the lead to six.

That was more than enough for Milwaukee starter Chris Narveson (1-0), who allowed six hits and three runs, two of them earned, in five innings. Narveson walked two and struck out four.

The Cubs pulled within 6-3 in the bottom of the third. Alfonso Soriano singled to center, scoring David DeJesus and Darwin Barney. Starlin Castro later scored on Jeff Baker’s sacrifice fly to center.

Making his Cubs debut, Maholm gave up six hits and six runs in four innings.

Geovany Soto hit his first homer of the season for the Cubs, a solo shot to left-center field leading off the ninth.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
The much-maligned Cubs bullpen gave up just one run and one hit in five innings ... Soriano finished 2-for-4, raising his average to .353 … Lucroy drove in a run in the seventh with a RBI single, finishing 2-for-4.
