Indians 9, Mariners 3: Travis Hafner belted a solo homer and drove in three runs as Cleveland extended Seattle's road misery with a convincing victory in the opener of an abbreviated two-game series.

Shin-Soo Choo collected three hits and scored twice and Ubaldo Jimenez (4-3) tossed six innings for the Indians, who posted their third straight win.

After a pair of Mariners throwing errors on a double steal highlighted a four-run first inning, the Indians used a more conventional offense to score four times in the fourth. Jason Kipnis, Hafner and Carlos Santana ignited the uprising with RBI doubles before Michael Brantley capped the scoring in the frame with an RBI single.

Hafner led off the sixth inning with a towering shot to right field for his fifth homer of the season and the 193rd of his career. The blast moved him past Al Rosen for sole possession of eighth place in Indians' history.

Dustin Ackley belted a two-run homer and extended his hitting streak to 12 games for the Mariners, who have dropped 11 of their last 12 road contests.

A delayed double steal resulted in catcher Jesus Montero attempting to throw out Asdrubal Cabrera at third. The ball sailed into the outfield, allowing Cabrera to score as left fielder Chone Figgins' return throw home got past Montero. Santana hustled around the bases and scored on a play at the plate.

Felix Hernandez (3-3) permitted eight runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss. The end result was far different than his last outing against Cleveland on April 19, when he recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts in eight scoreless innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cleveland right-hander Josh Tomlin will have a second MRI on his injured wrist. The cause for another MRI is a result of an unclear result in the first one, Tomlin said. ... Indians third baseman Jack Hannahan sat out for the third straight game with lower back soreness. He is also slated for an MRI. ... Jimenez improved to 2-0 in his career versus the Mariners.
