Mariners 4, Indians 1:
Chone Figgins and Ichiro Suzuki homered in the first inning and Jason Vargas tossed seven strong innings as Seattle handed Cleveland its first road loss.

Vargas (2-1) allowed one run on four hits with seven strikeouts, and Brandon League worked a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save.

Figgins hit his seventh career leadoff homer off Derek Lowe (2-1), and Suzuki added to the lead with his first home run.

Cleveland, which was looking to open 5-0 on the road for the first time in 14 seasons, fell behind 3-0 when Lowe walked Jesus Montero with the bases loaded in the second inning.

Lowe threw 113 pitches in 4 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and six walks.

The Indians cut the lead to 3-1 on Jason Kipnis' sacrifice fly in the third inning before the Mariners added an insurance run in the fourth on Dustin Ackley’s run-scoring single.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cleveland shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera, who was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday following a family death, missed his second game. … The Indians scored eight or more runs in each of its first four road games. … League has converted all five of his save opportunities this season.
