Tigers 5, White Sox 3: Austin Jackson and Miguel Cabrera homered to back seven stellar innings from Doug Fister as visiting Detroit snapped a four-game losing streak.

Fister (9-8) allowed two runs - both on solo homers - and three hits and retired the final 14 batters he faced as the Tigers pulled within two games of division-leading Chicago in the American League Central.

Alex Avila and Andy Dirks added RBI singles in the eighth inning to give Detroit only its second win in the last eight games.

Joaquin Benoit gave up a run-scoring single to Alejandro De Aza before closer Jose Valverde worked around a lead single in the ninth to earn his 29th save.

Dewayne Wise and Gordon Beckham swatted solo home runs for Chicago, which has lost 11 of 16 meetings with the Tigers this season.

Jackson erased a 2-0 deficit with a two-run shot in the fifth inning off Jake Peavy and Cabrera followed one batter later with his 36th homer to put Detroit ahead to stay.

Peavy (10-11) was charged with three runs on six hits while striking out nine in 5 2/3 innings to fall to 1-3 against the Tigers this season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Cabrera is 9-for-19 with three homers and seven RBIs against Peavy this year. ... Beckham's homer was his career-high 15th and was the 14th surrendered by Fister, also a career high. ... Jackson ended a 22-game drought without an RBI dating to Aug. 14. ... White Sox LHP Donnie Veal retired Prince Fielder with the bases loaded in the eighth and has set down 20 straight left-handed batters. ... Detroit is hitting .206 (21-for-102) with the bases loaded this year. ... White Sox DH Adam Dunn was not in the starting lineup for the fifth straight game due to a strained right oblique.
