Royals 2, White Sox 1 (10): Mike Moustakas delivered the tiebreaking two-out single in the top of the 10th as visiting Kansas City beat Chicago for the seventh time in the last eight meetings.

Jeff Francoeur followed with a run-scoring single off Brett Myers (2-3) and the Royals cut three runners down on the base paths while frustrating the White Sox.

Royals closer Greg Holland walked two batters in the 10th and Gordon Beckham stroked a run-scoring double before Holland struck out Alejandro De Aza and Ray Olmedo for his 13th save in 15 opportunities.

Chicago’s lead in the American League Central stayed at two games over the Detroit Tigers, who fell to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

The White Sox had a chance to win the contest in the bottom of the ninth when they loaded the bases with one out. But Kelvin Herrera (3-2) induced Alex Rios to ground into a double play to keep the game scoreless.

Kansas City starter Jeremy Guthrie continued his strong efforts against Chicago by allowing just six hits in eight scoreless innings.

Guthrie struck out four and walked none. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in 23 2/3 innings over three starts against Chicago this season.

White Sox starter Hector Santiago struck out eight in four innings in his second major-league start. Santiago allowed three hits and three walks and left after throwing 93 pitches.

De Aza was thrown out at home by Royals left fielder Alex Gordon on a fly ball in the first inning. Francoeur threw out two Chicago runners.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Chicago DH Adam Dunn (oblique) missed his third consecutive contest and it appears unlikely he will play in Monday’s opener of a key four-game series against the Detroit Tigers. … Guthrie hasn’t lost since falling to the Texas Rangers on Aug. 3. … White Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis missed his third straight game due to the birth of his son. … Royals 1B Eric Hosmer fanned four times in five hitless at-bats. … Chicago SS Alexei Ramirez was pulled from the starting lineup after arriving late but entered the game in the seventh as a pinch runner for Paul Konerko.
