Cubs 2, White Sox 1: David DeJesus had a two-run single to help Travis Wood win for the first time in over a year as the visiting Cubs beat the White Sox for the second straight night.

Wood (1-3) allowed one run on four hits in six innings to outduel Jake Peavy and earn his first victory since June 15, 2011.

Three relievers bridged the gap to Carlos Marmol, who closed it out in the ninth for his fourth save as the Cubs knocked the White Sox out of first place in the American League Central.

Peavy (6-3) gave up two runs - one earned - on five hits in his third complete game of the year but had his five-start winning streak against the Cubs snapped.

The White Sox took a 1-0 lead in the second on Alexei Ramirez's ground-rule RBI double, but couldn't come away with more despite three walks by Wood and an error by catcher Geovany Soto.

The Cubs went ahead in their next at-bat, getting a two-run single from DeJesus after third baseman Orlando Hudson committed an error and Peavy uncorked a wild pitch to move the runners up.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Peavy retired 16 straight batters following DeJesus' two-run single. ... Wood had lost his previous nine starts entering Tuesday's game. ... The White Sox optioned RHP Zach Stewart to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, one day after he surrendered four homers in a 12-3 loss to the Cubs. RHP Dylan Axelrod was recalled from Charlotte to take his place. ... Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic found no structural damage in the left wrist of Cubs 3B Ian Stewart. He received a cortisone injection Tuesday and is expected to rejoin the team Wednesday. ... MRI exams on White Sox LHP John Danks revealed a subscapularis muscle strain in his pitching shoulder. Danks, out since May 19, will begin a strength and conditioning program at the end of the week with the hope he can begin a rehab assignment in three to four weeks.
