White Sox 8, Indians 1: Adam Dunn belted a two-run homer and Jake Peavy tossed seven solid innings as visiting Chicago salvaged a split of a four-game series with its American League Central rival.

Alejandro De Aza ripped a two-run single and A.J. Pierzynski and Alexei Ramirez also drove in a run apiece to highlight a six-run fourth inning.

The White Sox improved to 10-8 on the road and moved to within three games of the first-place Indians.

After a 64-minute rain delay halted the start of the game, Dunn put Chicago on top in the first inning by depositing a slider from Jeanmar Gomez (2-2) into the seats in right-center field. Dunn has 10 homers this season – one less than he had all of last season.

The six-run fourth inning provided quite the cushion for Peavy (4-1), who allowed one run on seven hits and struck out five.

Gomez yielded eight runs on nine hits in 6 2/3 innings to take the loss as the Indians dropped their second straight.

GAME NOTEBOOK: White Sox closer Chris Sale will undergo an MRI exam on his left elbow in Chicago on Thursday. "It's more for a peace-of-mind thing," Sale said. "We just want to make sure it isn't anything serious." Sale's debut as the closer didn't go so well as he blew the save in Wednesday's eventual victory by the White Sox. ... Indians 3B Jack Hannahan sat out Wednesday's game with a groin injury. He is listed as day-to-day.
