Nationals 6, Diamondbacks 5:
Ryan Zimmerman drove in two runs during a five-run fifth inning and visiting Washington won their season-high eighth straight game.

Edwin Jackson (7-7) won despite giving up five runs over 5 2/3 innings for the Nationals, who remained 4 1/2 games ahead of Atlanta in the National League East. Tyler Clippard worked a perfect ninth for his 24th save.

The Diamondbacks led 4-1 after three innings, but Wade Miley (12-8) gave the lead back in the fifth, when Washington sent 10 batters to the plate and scored five runs on five hits.

The game started promisingly for Arizona, which lost for the sixth time in its last eight contests and fell five games behind San Francisco in the NL West. The Diamondbacks evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on Aaron Hill’s 14th home run.

Arizona added two in the second when Miguel Montero tripled in a run and scored on Stephen Drew’s two-out single. The Diamondbacks moved ahead 4-1 on Chris Johnson’s sacrifice fly in the third.

After cruising through the first four innings, things came apart for Miley in the fifth. Jayson Werth began the rally with an RBI double before Zimmerman singled in two runs and scored on Mike Morse’s double to deep right-center field.

Brad Bergesen replaced Miley and got Tyler Moore to fly out before Jesus Flores capped the scoring with an RBI single to center.

After pinch hitter Ryan Wheeler cut into Washington’s lead with an RBI double in the sixth, the Diamondbacks put two runners on in the eighth before Mike Gonzalez struck out Drew to end the threat.
