Cubs 5, Phillies 1: Matt Garza pitched seven strong innings and Joe Mather hit his first home run of the season as Chicago topped Philadelphia for a rare road victory.

Bryan LaHair recorded three hits and scored twice while Starlin Castro had two RBIs for the Cubs, who had lost six of seven away from home.

Garza (2-1) yielded a leadoff single by Jimmy Rollins in the first inning before retiring 19 in a row. The streak was snapped when he issued a one-out walk to Juan Pierre in the seventh.

Garza, who fanned the side in the third, finished with a season-high 10 strikeouts.

LaHair led off the second with a ground-rule double and scored later in the frame on Ian Stewart's groundout for a 1-0 lead. Tony Campana began the third with a single and crossed the plate on Castro's sacrifice fly two batters later, doubling the advantage.

Mather belted a solo shot off Kyle Kendrick (0-2) with two outs in the fourth and the Cubs added two in the eighth to seal the win.

Kendrick lasted six innings in his second start of the season, allowing three runs - two earned - and five hits with seven strikeouts.

Ty Wigginton drew a bases-loaded walk from Carlos Marmol with two outs in the ninth, plating Philadelphia's lone run.
